What is a .wav file?    

A .wav file is a sound clip.  Most of the time the sound is a short piece of a larger sound generally not lasting over 30 seconds.  These sounds can be used for start up and shut down sounds, event sounds, webpages, presentations, and for just listening pleasure.

 

 

What do I do with .wav files that are on the net?

Click on a .wav file once to listen to the sound.  To download it, right click on the sound and save it to your hard disk.

 

 

What can I use to listen to a .wav file?

Various programs can be used to listen to .wav files.  Here are some examples of programs: Sound Recorder, Windows Media Player, Cool Edit.

 

 

 

How can I use .wav files for events on my computer?

For a windows based computer use the following steps to assign .wav sounds to events:

  1. Click on the START Button
  2. Go to the SETTINGS
  3. Click on the CONTROL PANEL
  4. Click on SOUNDS
  5. In EVENTS click the event to which you want to assign a sound
  6. In NAME click the sound you want to play whenever the selected event occurs
  7. If the sound you want to use is not listed, click BROWSE
  8. You can test a sound by clicking its name, and then clicking the button. The sound stops when you click the button
